Analyzing the impact of KV representation compression on explainability in lightweight transformer-based sentiment analysis

Scientific Reports Misun Lee, Yeonghyeon Gu Jun 24, 2026 DOI: 10.1038/s41598-026-59638-w

Abstract This study analyzes the impact of key-value (KV) representation compression on explainability in lightweight Transformer-based sentiment analysis. DistilBERT and MiniLM are evaluated on IMDB, SST-2, and TweetEval using a two-stage compression framework. The proposed approach achieves compression ratios of 2.46–3.05 while maintaining high representational similarity (cosine similarity > 0.994). Predictive performance remains stable across all settings, with accuracy variations within 0.02. From an explainability perspective, compression effects vary depending on dataset characteristics. SST-2 demonstrates strong robustness, maintaining explanation preservation above 0.90 with high contrastive consistency (~ 0.89). In contrast, IMDB and TweetEval show moderate reductions in fidelity and stability, although meaningful explanation structures are still preserved (preservation ~ 0.53–0.74). In some cases, fidelity and matching reliability are slightly improved after compression. These results indicate that KV representation compression improves memory efficiency while largely preserving predictive performance and core explanation structures. However, its impact on explainability depends on dataset characteristics such as input length and structural complexity.

Utilization of preconception care and associated factors among HIV-positive women of reproductive age attending ART clinics in government health institutions of Gamo Zone, Southern Ethiopia, 2021

Scientific Reports Melkamu Tulbake, Birknesh Mereta, Eyasu Ware et al. Jun 24, 2026 DOI: 10.1038/s41598-026-58300-9

Abstract Preconception care is an important intervention aimed at improving maternal and neonatal outcomes among women of reproductive age and HIV-positive women. Inadequate utilization of preconception care may increase the risk of vertical HIV transmission and adverse pregnancy outcomes. To assess utilization rate of preconception care and associated factors among Human Immune Deficiency Virus positive reproductive age women attending Anti-Retroviral Treatment clinics in Gamo zone, 2021. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from March 1 to April 1, 2021. A total of 559 participants were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured, pretested, interviewer-administered questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 25. Variables with a p -value < 0.25 in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression model. Statistical significance was declared at a p -value < 0.05 with a 95% confidence interval. Total of the 559 HIV-positive women selected for the study, 579 participated, resulting in a response rate of 96.5%. overall utilization of preconception care was 32%. Education, Monthly income, History of pregnancy, Number of pregnancy and Occupation were significantly associated with utilization of preconception care with (AOR: 4.42; 95% CI 1.48–13.17), (AOR: 2.85; 95% CI 1.41–5.74), (AOR: 2.99; 95% CI 1.18–7.71), (AOR: 2.97; 95% CI 1.28–6.91), and(AOR: 0.45; 95% CI 0.21–0.96) respectively. The utilization of preconception care among HIV-positive women was low. Educational status, occupation, monthly income, history of pregnancy, and gravidity were significantly associated with preconception care utilization. Healthcare providers, health facilities, and public health programs should enhance awareness creation, counseling, and accessibility of preconception care services, particularly among women with lower socioeconomic status and limited reproductive experience.

Thermodynamic studies and optimization of pectinase produced by soil-isolated Aspergillus foetidus and its application in the textile industry

Scientific Reports Sara H. Mansour, Eman F. Ahmed, Naser G. Al-Balakocy et al. Jun 24, 2026 DOI: 10.1038/s41598-026-57508-z

Abstract The current study aimed to produce pectinase enzyme from locally isolated fungus and to improve its industrial applicatbility as an eco-friendly alternative to chemical agents traditionally used in textile industries. The most active fungal isolate was genetically identified as Aspergillus foetidus (NR_163668.1). Submerged fermentation allowed maximal pectinase production yield of 138 U/mg at pH 4.5 and 37 °C after 5 days of incubation. Among six agro-industrial substrates evaluated; 4% wheat bran, supplemented with 1% yeast extract and 0.2% EDTA resulted in maximal enzyme production. The produced pectinase showed higher stability at acidic conditions after 15 and 30 min. Thermal kinetic parameters, including half-life (t₁/₂), enthalpy change (ΔH), Gibbs free energy (ΔG), and entropy change (ΔS), were determined, confirming high thermal stability. These properties support its potential biocatalytic application in textile industries. To confirm the feasibility of the produced pectinase enzyme in textile industry, optimized conditions were applied to treat soured polyester/cotton (PET/C) blend fabric. The reaction was performed at 50 °C and pH of 5.0 for 40 min. These conditions led to the removal of the sizing agent (starch) with a total weight loss of PET/C fabric of approximately 4%.
