A hybrid GA–LP scenario-based framework for day-ahead scheduling of PV–BES systems with profit–robustness trade-off

Abstract This paper proposes a scenario-based scheduling framework for a photovoltaic–battery energy storage (PV–BES) system participating in day-ahead energy arbitrage markets. The proposed framework accounts for uncertainties in both PV generation and electricity prices. A hybrid optimization approach is developed, combining a genetic algorithm (GA) with a linear programming (LP) model. The optimization problem is decomposed into two layers. In the first layer, the GA determines the BES commitment schedule, while in the second layer, a coupled LP is solved to obtain the shared BES dispatch schedule, held fixed across all scenarios, with the grid exchange power varying per scenario. A robustness weight is incorporated to control the trade-off between profitability and robustness. Solving the problem across multiple values of robustness weight yields a Pareto frontier, enabling operators to select a scheduling strategy aligned with their risk preference. A case study based on real PV generation and electricity price data is conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. The results are further compared with those obtained from three benchmark approaches: deterministic MILP, a naive rule-based method, and classical robust optimization.

Giant nonlinear Hall effect in isospin symmetry broken bilayer graphene

Abstract Spontaneous isospin ordering fundamentally reshapes quantum nonlinear transport, yet the nature of nonlinear responses in strongly correlated and symmetry-broken quantum states remain largely unexplored. In this work, we investigate a regime where symmetry breaking is not static but emerges dynamically as a tunable property of the electronic system, driven by strong correlations. Using high-quality, dual-gated Bernal bilayer graphene, we observe a giant nonlinear Hall conductivity (9.1 µm S V⁻¹) that manifests strongly in a field-driven isospin-polarized phase. In this correlated regime, the nonlinear conductivity scales exponentially with the linear conductivity, in stark contrast to the quadratic scaling expected in conventional nonlinear systems. Combined with quantum oscillation measurements and self-consistent theoretical modelling, our results indicate that this giant response is closely linked to an interaction-driven valley-polarized state. Our findings establish spontaneous isospin symmetry breaking as an effective route to giant nonlinear quantum transport, where interaction-enhanced skew scattering emerges as the dominant transport mechanism.

Chlamydia trachomatis serovar D replicates in uroepithelial T24/83 cells in the absence of overt inflammation

Abstract The human uroepithelial bladder cancer cell line T24/83 replicates C. trachomatis serovar D efficiently. We show here that the infection with the pathogen induces significant transcription of cytokine genes such as il1β , il6 and tnf but not their secretion. Infected HeLa cells also do not release these cytokines with the exception of IL-6. In contrast, endotoxin, transfected polyI: C or infection with the uropathogenic E. coli strain CFT073 induce a robust pro-inflammatory response in T24/83 cells. These findings indicate that the cells recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns including the TLR4 and TLR3 ligands endotoxin and dsRNA, respectively, also present in C. trachomatis serovar D. We, therefore, generated tlr4- deficient T24/83 cells to study its influence on replication of C. trachomatis serovar D. In contrast to our expectation, C. trachomatis serovar D replication in T24/83 cells did not benefit from tlr4- deficiency. TLR3 was reported to recognize C. trachomatis serovar D in the human oviduct cell line OE-E6/E7. However, tlr3- deficiency also did not improve the replication of the pathogen in T24/83 cells. Interestingly, C. trachomatis serovar D did not modulate an endotoxin-induced cytokine release but impaired significantly a polyI: C-induced and TLR3-dependent release of IFN-β. We conclude that C. trachomatis serovar D avoids an inflammatory reaction and circumvents recognition by TLR4 and TLR3 in infected uroepithelial T24/83 cells.

Evaluation of rheumatic disease mobile applications using MARS

Abstract Introduction: Rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, significantly impact global health. Mobile health (mHealth) applications offer new opportunities for disease management, yet many lack scientific validation. The Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) provides a standardized method for assessing app quality. This study evaluates rheumatology-related mobile apps in Iranian marketplaces using MARS to ensure informed app selection for patient care. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 to evaluate the quality of Persian-language mobile applications for rheumatic diseases using the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS). A systematic search of Google Play, Myket, and Bazaar identified eligible applications. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six applications were included in the final evaluation. The apps were assessed by health informatics specialists, rheumatologists, and patients with rheumatic diseases using the MARS instrument. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26. The overall average score of the selected apps was 2.32, indicating a low to moderate quality. In the interaction dimension, the app Rheumatism and its treatment methods received a score of 1.96, which was the highest in this section. The performance of the best apps in this dimension showed an average of 3.53. In the aesthetics section, the app Rheumatism scored 2.6, showing better performance, but the average of this dimension (2.12) remained at a low level. In the information dimension, the app Rheumatism scored 2.2, earning the highest rank, but the overall average of this dimension (1.94) indicated the poor quality of the scientific content in the apps. Finally, the two apps Rheumatism and Rheumatism with scores of 2.43 and 2.53 respectively performed the best in the overall evaluation. The findings indicated that Persian-language apps related to rheumatism need improvement in terms of interaction, information, and aesthetics. Enhancing the quality of scientific content, increasing user engagement, and using more diverse formats for presenting information could help improve the effectiveness of these apps in managing and educating patients with rheumatism.
