Simultaneous multi-well production forecasting and operational strategy awareness in heterogeneous reservoirs: a spatiotemporal attention-enhanced multi-graph convolutional network
Capturing atomic wetting dynamics in real time
Abstract Atomic-scale wetting governs material formation at the nanoscale but remains poorly understood under confinement, where classical capillarity models fail. The growth of metallic nanowires within multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) exemplifies this challenge, requiring precise control over wetting, nucleation, and vapour-phase condensation. Here we show that nanowire formation proceeds through a two-stage mechanism: curvature-driven nucleation at open tube ends followed by capillary-driven elongation sustained by continuous vapour condensation. Using in situ atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy (ARTEM) coupled with a deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) capable of classifying liquid, solid and intermediate Sn x O phase transitions, we directly capture the cascade of thermally induced nanowire growth within CNTs. Growth requires a wetting interface (contact angle, θ <90°) between liquid Sn x O and the nanotube wall—conditions not described by Kelvin or Lucas–Washburn models. These results establish a predictive framework for vapour-phase nanowire encapsulation, linking nanoscale wetting dynamics to the fabrication of advanced nanomaterials.

Large-scale crustal growth driven by LIP magmatism during the Paleoproterozoic
Abstract The evolution of Earth’s continental crust is crucial for understanding geodynamics, climate regulation, and the origins of life. The Paleoproterozoic, marked by the Great Oxidation Event and the consolidation of plate tectonics, was a critical interval for continental growth. While arc magmatism dominates crust formation in the Phanerozoic, its role in earlier Earth history remains uncertain. Three silicic LIPs in the Amazon Craton were emplaced at regular ~90-100 million-year intervals (1980 Ma, 1880 Ma, and 1790 Ma), producing high-temperature (>750 °C) silicic magmas derived from lower crust ( ~ 45 km thick). Our findings demonstrate that LIPs contributed significantly to continental crustal growth through deep-crustal partial melting of Archean-Rhyacian crust. We highlight that silicic LIP magmatism was a fundamental driver of continental differentiation and long-term stability during the Paleoproterozoic.

TOR and heat shock response pathways regulate peroxisome biogenesis during proteotoxic stress
Abstract Peroxisomes are versatile organelles mediating energy homeostasis and redox balance. While peroxisome dysfunction is linked to numerous diseases, the mechanisms regulating peroxisome dynamics during cellular stress remain elusive. Using yeast, we show that proteotoxic stress, including loss of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) or cytosolic chaperone function, impaired ER protein translocation, disrupted N-linked glycosylation, or reductive stress, triggers peroxisome proliferation. This occurs through increased de novo biogenesis from the ER, as well as growth and division, rather than impaired pexophagy. Peroxisome biogenesis is essential for cellular recovery from proteotoxic stress. Through comprehensive testing of major signaling pathways, we determine this response to be mediated by activation of the heat shock response and inhibition of Target of Rapamycin (TOR) signaling. Notably, the effects of proteotoxic stress and TOR inhibition on peroxisomes are also observed in human fibroblasts. Our findings reveal a critical and conserved role of peroxisomes in cellular response to proteotoxic stress.

Genome-wide gene-environment interaction study uncovers 162 vitamin D status variants using a precise ambient UVB measure
Abstract Vitamin D status is influenced by genetic and environmental factors—primarily sun exposure. Using satellite weather data, we estimated an ambient UVB dose for each participant based on residential address and date of sampling. We conducted genome-wide tests in 338,977 UK Biobank White British participants, adjusted for age, sex, supplements, UVB dose, and 10 principal components to account for population structure. We applied three models to test for genetic effects: marginal only, main and interaction, and joint effects. We identified 307 variants associated with standardised log-transformed 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) concentration, 162 of which were not previously identified in GWAS. We identify an increase in SNP-heritability by increasing ambient UVB exposure quintiles (h 2 Q1 = 8.48% vs . h 2 Q5 = 15.56%). Downstream annotation implicated genes in the 25OHD pathway, including the circadian regulator, BMAL1 . This and further findings suggest that vitamin D status and circadian rhythm may be entangled and that vitamin D metabolites may have a role as mediators of seasonal physiological fluctuations, including metabolism, and in turn explain the established associations with lipid metabolism pathways.
