Abstract This research establishes a comprehensive theoretical framework for soliton propagation in magneto-optic waveguides by investigating a generalized coupled Kudryashov-type nonlinear Schrödinger system under the influence of higher-order nonlinear effects. The primary objective is to resolve the complex interplay between self-steepening, nonlinear dispersion, and magnetization parameters, which are often oversimplified in standard models. By implementing the improved simple equation method, we derive a new spectrum of exact analytical solutions, including robust kink, antikink, and singular profiles, and provide their first detailed parametric characterization. Our findings demonstrate that tuning specific nonlinear coefficients allows for precise control over pulse stability and transition gradients, offering critical insights for the development of high-capacity optical communication architectures and all-optical switching technologies.

Abstract Recreational water quality in coastal areas is vital for public health, especially in urban regions. In this study, a recreational water quality index (RWQI) tailored to the Red Sea coastline in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was developed to assess water quality at popular beaches. The samples were collected from three different locations. To develop the RWQI, relevant water quality parameters, such as the pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), Escherichia coli ( E. coli ), and enterococci, were identified and weighted on the basis of their significance for recreational water safety. These parameters were rated according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Saudi Arabia Ambient Water Quality Standards (SAAWQS). The results were then aggregated into a single index score reflecting the overall water quality. The results revealed that Obhur Al-Shamaliya exhibited generally good water quality, particularly in winter, with index scores ranging from 83 to 98, meeting both the WHO and Saudi standards. All three sites recorded poorer water quality during the second sampling period in summer, with nutrient enrichment and E. coli counts exceeding permissible limits (2,300, 3,875, and 2,58.13 CFU/100 mL, respectively), resulting in an index classification as unsuitable for recreational purposes. The urban runoff sites were at high risk, with elevated pollution. Moreover, a one-way ANOVA test confirmed that the seasonal variation in the RWQI was statistically significant (F = 8.29, p  = 0.045), emphasizing the influence of environmental factors, such as temperature and runoff, on recreational water quality. These findings underscore the need for season-specific monitoring and management strategies in coastal recreational areas.

Association between CRP rs1800947 genotypes, dexamethasone use, postoperative CRP level and morbidity in adult cardiac surgical patients in post-hoc analysis of the observational INFLACOR cohort trial

Abstract Postoperative inflammation contributes to organ dysfunction and complications after cardiac surgery. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a common marker of systemic inflammation. In this study, we assessed how postoperative CRP levels and their trajectories are associated with the CRP rs1800947 gene variant and perioperative dexamethasone use, and how these factors relate to postoperative morbidity. We analysed CRP levels in 484 adults who underwent cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). CRP levels on postoperative day 1 (CRP1) were compared across the rs1800947 genotype and intraoperative dexamethasone dose: (1) none, (2) low (median 0.4 mg/kg), or (3) high (median 1.0 mg/kg). The 4-day CRP trajectories were evaluated in a subgroup of 174 patients with serial CRP measurements. The composite outcome of 30-day morbidity and mortality was analysed to reveal the association with CRP trajectories. Results: Adjusted analysis revealed an association between the GC genotype and a 15% reduction in CRP1 levels. Dexamethasone, regardless of dose, reduced CRP1 levels by ~ 30%. Morning surgery increased CRP1 levels by 27%. Elevated preoperative CRP levels increased postoperative CRP1 levels by 19%. CRP trajectories varied by genotype and dexamethasone exposure. Patients were grouped into four trajectory types, whose associations with postoperative complications differed significantly. Conclusions: Postoperative CRP levels and trends were associated with genetic and clinical factors. Low-dose dexamethasone is as effective as high-dose dexamethasone in limiting increases in CRP1 level. The CRP patterns associated with CRP genotypes and dexamethasone use potentially represent inflammatory endotypes linked to different morbidity risks. Abstract Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage-Enhanced Oil Recovery (CCUS-EOR) technology can effectively improve crude oil recovery while simultaneously sequestering CO 2 in geological formations to reduce emissions. The distribution and migration patterns of oil and gas in reservoir rock masses remain one of the key issues worthy of study, among which CO 2 -oil displacement experiments are the most direct research method. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) provides technical assurance for the visualization and quantification of displacement experiments. Different from previous studies, we selected experimental cores based on their pore characteristics and optimized the experimental scheme. Strictly controlled single variables were used to determine the effects of various factors, including injection pressure, temperature, pore structure, permeability, and crude oil viscosity, on CO₂ flooding efficiency. An in-depth analysis of the oil and gas migration mechanisms during CO 2 flooding was conducted using T 2 relaxation spectra and oil-filled porosity distribution maps. The study identified oil recovery has nonlinear relationship with injection pressure and near-linear relationships with temperature, compared the displacement differences between medium and high viscosity oils, and revealed the dominant role of pore structure on oil recovery effectiveness. It is worth noting that the order-of-magnitude change in permeability did not significantly improve oil recovery, which is quite different from previous studies.

Machine learning prediction of dual absorber lead-free perovskite solar cells for boosting PCE

Abstract Curtailing the toxicity level of perovskites is a considerable obstacle resisting the wide-scale commercialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). This study investigates the impact of implementing several charge transport layers (CTLs) on the performance of the proposed lead-free Cs 2 TiCl 6 / Cs 2 AgBiI 6 PSC employing SCAPS-1D simulations. Additionally, the effect of variations in thickness, doping, and defect concentrations of each layer has been considered to optimize the performance of the proposed device. Furthermore, various machine learning models have been trained to estimate the performance of the proposed device through a generated dataset consisting of $$2187$$ unique data points. Results reveal that employing high quality Cs 2 TiCl 6 layer of $$100\ nm$$ thickness and $$1\times {10}^{14\ } {cm}^{-3}$$ donor doping density, above a $$1000\ nm$$ Cs 2 AgBiI 6 absorber with $$1\times {10}^{18\ } {cm}^{-3}$$ acceptor doping density can theoretically achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of $$32.72 \%$$ and a short circuit current density (J SC ) of $$26.06\ mA/{cm}^{2}$$ . Moreover, the extreme gradient boosting (XGB) model has been demonstrated to be the most effective model to predict the performance of the proposed PSC, yielding the lowest root mean square error ( $$RMSE$$ ), and the highest coefficient of determination ( $${R}^{2}$$ ) among the other examined models. The findings highlight the capability of optimally engineered dual-absorber PSCs to be considered as eco-friendly, competitive alternatives to the conventional lead-based PSCs.

Tactical and assessment competency gaps in pre-service coaches: evidence from a game-based implementation

Abstract This study examined tactical and assessment competency gaps in pre-service coaches within a structured game-based implementation context. An Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods design was employed. In the quantitative phase, 40 pre-service candidates (24 Physical Education Teacher Education [PET], 16 Coach Education [CE]) were evaluated using the Educational Game Playing Skill Observation Scale, assessing preparation, implementation, and evaluation competencies. The qualitative phase involved semi-structured interviews with expert academics to provide contextual explanation of the quantitative findings. Results indicated that CE students outperformed PET students in game management and organizational dimensions. However, both groups demonstrated substantial deficiencies in higher-order tactical and assessment competencies, particularly in reflective evaluation, post-game analysis, and in-game tactical facilitation. Effect sizes were in the small-to-medium range yet consistently indicated structural competency gaps extending beyond technical proficiency. These findings suggest that current coach education pathways insufficiently develop tactical facilitation and evaluative expertise within game-based instructional practices. Systematic curricular integration of practice-based modules explicitly targeting tactical intervention and performance evaluation is recommended.

VISFATIN: a novel modulator of placental endocrinology under physiological and pathological conditions—in vitro studies involving INSR, ERK1/2, and PKA signalling pathways

Abstract This study aimed to determine the in vitro effects of visfatin on selected endocrine mediators in the human placenta. Using placental BeWo cells and villous explants from normal pregnancies and those complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), preeclampsia (PE), and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), we determined the effects of visfatin on 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD), aromatase (CYP19), human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), human placental lactogen (hPL), placental growth hormone (GH2) expression, and the secretion of progesterone (P 4 ), estradiol (E 2 ) and mentioned protein hormones. We also investigated the effects of visfatin on the phosphorylation of protein kinase A (PKA), and hormone secretion after the pharmacological inhibition of insulin receptor (INSR), extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), and PKA. We noted that visfatin increased or decreased the mRNA and protein expression of HSD3B1 /3β-HSD, CYP19A1 /CYP19, CGB3 /hCG, CSH1 /hPL, and GH2 /GH2 in the tested groups. Additionally, visfatin lowered the secretion of P 4 , E 2 , hCG, hPL, and GH2 in BeWo cells and normal placenta, but modulated it in placenta explants from the pathological groups. The secretion of E 2 , hPL and GH2 was mediated by INSR, ERK1/2, and PKA, while P 4 by INSR and ERK1/2. These data indicated that visfatin acting via selected molecular pathways may be an important regulator of placental endocrine function during normal and complicated pregnancies.
