Proportion and related factors of depression and anxiety for patients with pulmonary nodules in China: a outpatient-based cross-sectional study
Abstract Investigating the proportion of depression and anxiety in patients with pulmonary nodules (PNs) and exploring the factors influencing them may help to optimize PNs management protocols and guide clinical decision-making. This study employed a cross-sectional design and included 260 patients attending the hospital’s outpatient clinic. The assessment of depression and anxiety in patients with PNs was conducted using the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), respectively. Demographic and clinical data were also collected. The factors influencing depression and anxiety in patients with PNs were analyzed using univariate analysis and binary logistic regression. The proportion of depression and anxiety in patients with PNs was 23.46% and 31.54%, respectively. The results of the binary logistic regression analysis indicated that insomnia (odds ratio [OR] = 7.343, 95%CI: 3.231–16.687) and loss of appetite (OR = 3.432, 95%CI: 1.474–7.991) were identified as independent risk factors for depression. The history of occupational exposure (OR = 4.154, 95%CI: 1.089–15.844), insomnia (OR = 4.162, 95% CI: 2.119–8.175), loss of appetite (OR = 2.326, 95%CI: 1.013–5.341), and chest tightness (OR = 3.155, 95% CI: 1.392–7.149) were significant independent predictors of anxiety. This study demonstrates that depression and anxiety are common with PNs in traditional Chinese medicine hospital. Insomnia and loss of appetite are independent risk factors for depression. History of occupational exposure, insomnia, loss of appetite, and chest tightness are independent risk factors for anxiety. Therefore, medical workers should pay close attention to the mood changes of these high-risk patients.

Sex hormones regulate the sexual dimorphism of the lung resident immune milieu
Abstract A strong sex-bias characterizes many respiratory immune diseases and has been attributed to sexually dimorphic immune responses. However, the role of lung-resident immunity in this context remains elusive. Here, we thoroughly characterized the lung-resident immune landscape in male and female mice, with a special focus on sex hormone effects in this context. Androgens were found to exert the strongest effects, markedly impacting B cells and neutrophils in both male and female lungs. Castrated males exhibited increased, while testosterone-treated females and males decreased lung-residing B cells. Testosterone supplementation of castrated males and females resulted in increased lung-residing neutrophils. Sex-mismatched orthotopic lung transplantation further supported these findings, since lungs isolated from female donors exhibited reduced tissue-residing B cells after their transplantation into male recipients. For the remaining lung-resident immune cell populations, sex differences were observed at the level of cell frequencies, with male lungs exhibiting higher frequencies of alveolar macrophages and lower frequencies of lung-resident dendritic cells and CD4⁺ tissue-resident memory T cells. Castration reversed some of these findings. Our findings highlight that the sexual dimorphism of the lung-resident immune landscape is modulated by sex hormones and especially androgens, thereby providing insights into the sex-specific manifestation of respiratory immune diseases.

ADHD traits and financial decision making in stock trading
Abstract Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition characterised by inattention and impulsivity. While its effects on academic and occupational functioning are well established, less is known about how ADHD traits relate to financial behaviours, particularly in high-risk contexts such as online trading. This cross-sectional study examined associations between ADHD traits and financial decision-making in a sample of 945 active online traders. Participants were assessed using a validated self-report scale for ADHD traits and standardised measures of financial risk tolerance (FRT), trading activity, and portfolio performance. The median participant age was 34 years, with 74.5% identifying as male. Based on self-report, 5.7% of participants met DSM-5 symptom criteria suggestive of ADHD, though no clinical diagnosis was made. Participants with ADHD traits demonstrated significantly higher FRT and greater speculative risk-taking. ADHD traits correlated positively with FRT and negatively with portfolio returns. Regression analyses revealed that increased trading frequency, speculative risk-taking, and higher return expectations predicted greater ADHD trait expression, while higher actual portfolio returns and higher investment risk scores were associated with lower ADHD traits. Though causality cannot be inferred, traits like inattention and impulsivity might contribute to suboptimal decision-making in volatile financial settings. Clinicians should consider this in their assessments, promote awareness and support prevention of poor investment decisions. Further longitudinal studies are needed, alongside targeted financial guidance for individuals with elevated ADHD traits.
