Measurement of temperature-dependent elastic moduli using S1-ZGV resonance and locally laser heating trapped A1 resonance
Abstract
Evaluating the temperature dependence of metallic plates is vital; however, it remains challenging for modern nondestructive testing techniques. This paper proposes a non-contact, nondestructive method to evaluate the temperature dependence of the elastic modulus by combining the S1-zero-group-velocity resonance with the trapped A1 resonance induced by local heating. The resonance frequency was measured using an all-optical experimental system integrating a pump, a probe, and heating beams at several time instants, which enabled the simultaneous evaluation of the temperature-dependent coefficients of Young's modulus and shear modulus. The inverse problem was solved by fitting the experimental resonance frequency to the theoretical values using differential evolution techniques, and the inverted results for the Ti–6Al–4V alloy closely matched literature values.
