Antecedents of Gen Z’s green purchase intention in Vietnam’s fashion industry with the moderating role of greenwash perception
While buying sustainable fashion items is becoming more and more popular worldwide, the concept of green fashion is still relatively new in Vietnam. Besides, many fashion brands use “greenwashing” to deceive consumers and encourage their purchases. This study aims to examine the drivers of green purchasing intention among Gen Z in Vietnam’s fashion industry with greenwash perception as the moderating factor. The conceptual model was analyzed using structural equation modeling with the bootstrapping method based on data gathered from 467 Vietnamese Gen Z customers. The findings reveal significant positive influences of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and perceived consumer effectiveness on green purchase intention. Greenwash perception serves as a significant negative moderator, enhancing the relationship between the determinants and green purchasing intention. The results hold significant implications for businesses, encouraging them to embrace transparent and genuine sustainability practices instead of engaging in greenwashing. This can be achieved by clearly communicating their initiatives, offering third-party certifications, and conducting educational campaigns. The study provides original contributions to the existing body of literature and offers recommendations for future research in the context of developing countries.

Short communication: miRNA122 interrogation via PCR-Free method to track liver recovery
There is currently a need to investigate new biomarkers of acute liver injury (ALI) that are highly specific to the liver and capable of detecting early-stage liver damage. In this regard, circulating microRNAs (miRNAs), particularly microRNA122 (miRNA122), have recently been proposed as promising new candidate biomarkers. However, the quantification of miRNAs is not a standardized technique and presents several challenges that hinder its routine use. The aim of this work is to validate the innovative Dynamic Chemical Labeling (DCL) PCR-Free technology for its ability to detect miRNA122 in patient samples using Luminex xMAP platforms. The DCL PCR-Free technology was used to directly measure and monitor miRNA122 levels in serum samples from patients with ALI. Patients were monitored throughout the recovery process from liver injury, from the time of detection and for up to 30 days afterwards, with follow-up over three separate visits. The results demonstrate the robustness of the method, with sensitivity of 3.36% and precision of 99.80%, and show a high correlation between miRNA122 and traditional liver injury markers such as ALT (r = 0.8150, p = 0.0001), AST (r = 0.7895, p = 0.0002) and TBL (r = 0.2646, p = 0.3406) throughout the ALI recovery process. In conclusion, measuring miRNA122 levels using the DCL PCR-Free method provides a distinctive approach, not only for diagnosing ALI patients but also for effectively monitoring disease progression, tracking liver recovery, and evaluating treatment effectiveness.

Negotiating science funding: The interplay of merit, bias, and administrative discretion in grant allocation in Kazakhstan
This paper analyzes 4,488 applications from a grant funding competition held in 2017 in Kazakhstan. The competition had a two-stage design: first, anonymous subject matter experts evaluated the applications’ scientific potential; then, open panels of local science managers made the final decisions. We analyze a range of bibliometric, institutional, and demographic variables associated with the applications and show that review scores account for only a small variation in success rates. The most important factor is the organizational closeness to decision-making. Gender also plays a role: we find that, net of academic merit, men and women investigators receive similar review scores, yet the panelists grant awards to men more often than to women. We further demonstrate that the gender gap emerges due to decisions made in a specific domain—Natural Resource Management.
