New high-Z detectors based on YAlO3:Bi3+ for joint use with tissue equivalent BeO in tandem OSL dosimeter

Abstract The work introduces a new type of UV-emitting high-Z OSL detectors based on YAlO3:Bi3+ (YAP: Bi) perovskite. Two kinds of YAP: Bi solid state detectors have been fabricated and compared to BeO Thermalox®995 chips. The first ones are single-crystalline detectors cut from a Czochralski grown crystal. The second are detectors cut from the high-density bulk ceramics prepared by the high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) pressing technique from nanocrystalline powder derived from sol-gel synthesis. The YAP: Bi ceramic detectors studied suffer from strong thermal fading, which makes their use impractical, at least until technological methods to modify this property of ceramics are found. The single crystalline YAP: Bi detectors show very low thermal fading, a wide linearity range of dose response and a sensitivity comparable to BeO, which together with the optical registration in the same UV range, compatible optical stimulation by blue light and similar registration times in CW-OSL mode make them ideal high-Z detectors that can be used alone or in tandem with BeO detectors.

Radiomics analysis based on dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI for predicting early recurrence after hepatectomy in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

Abstract This study aimed to develop a machine learning model based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) radiomics for predicting early recurrence after curative surgery in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).A retrospective analysis was conducted on 200 patients with HCC who underwent curative hepatectomy. Patients were randomly allocated to training (n = 140) and validation (n = 60) cohorts. Preoperative arterial, portal venous, and delayed phase images were acquired. Tumor regions of interest (ROIs) were manually delineated, with an additional ROI obtained by expanding the tumor boundary by 5 mm. Radiomic features were extracted and selected using the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO). Multiple machine learning algorithms were employed to develop predictive models. Model performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, decision curve analysis, and calibration curves. The 20 most discriminative radiomic features were integrated with tumor size and satellite nodules for model development. In the validation cohort, the clinical-peritumoral radiomics model demonstrated superior predictive accuracy (AUC = 0.85, 95% CI: 0.74–0.95) compared to the clinical-intratumoral radiomics model (AUC = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.68–0.93) and the radiomics-only model (AUC = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.69–0.93). Furthermore, calibration curves and decision curve analyses indicated superior calibration ability and clinical benefit. The MRI-based peritumoral radiomics model demonstrates significant potential for predicting early recurrence of HCC.

Analytical model of stress analysis for pipeline lowering-in during construction

During buried pipelines, two construction modes are used, namely, sinking and lowering pipeline into being-dug trench by self-weight, lifting and lowering pipeline into pre-dug trench by hoist. For pipeline sinking and lowering-in, the analytical model was derived especially considering the soil displacement at the end boundary of being-dug trench. For pipeline lifting and lowering-in, the control condition to calculate the lifting force was firstly given based on the extreme displacement of the pipeline. Then, finite difference on the pipeline deflection at each lifting point was performed to obtain the bending moment of the pipeline, and then the lifting point force was derived. Furthermore, the analytical model was established for lifting and lowering-in. By the finite element model and on-site experiment, the analytical models were validated. Results indicated that: (1) taking the length of arched segment, the length of suspended segment, the maximum stress and the bending moment as comparison variables, the maximum errors were 5.56%, 5.96%, 5.35%, 7.36% between the sinking and lowering-in model and the finite element model, while were 8.79%, 4.27%, 8.68%, 8.72% between the sinking and lowering-in model and the on-site experiment; (2) the maximum errors between the lifting and lowering model and finite element model were 7.63%, 8.59%, 3.74%, 6.44%, 9.51% and 8.13%, considering the lifting force and pipeline stress in the vertical plane, the lifting force and pipeline stress in the horizontal plane, and the combined lifting force and combined stress as comparison parameters, and meanwhile the analytical results showed the overall agreement to numerical model at the trench-touched point and the ground-departed point, with the relative errors of 8.59% and 3.68% (in the vertical plane), 5.73% and 4.39% (in the horizontal plane), 6.85% and 4.12% (combined stress), respectively.

Corticothalamic feedback locally modulates network state

Abstract As the cortex receives most of its input from the thalamus, cortical layer 6 (L6) in turn sends a massive glutamatergic projection back to the corresponding thalamic areas. L6 feedback is morphologically and physiologically distinct from driver excitatory inputs, being, according to Sherman and Guillery, a modulatory pathway, akin to classical modulators. Here we tested this hypothesis by examining the effect of L6 corticothalamic activation on thalamocortical oscillations and network state, using extracellular recordings and optogenetic stimulation. We found that different patterns of L6 activity can promote the transition to both light- and deep sleep-like states, as well as to desynchronized activity. Low frequency L6 activation entrained sleep spindles in a temporal manner, while tonic L6 activity abolished spindling and promoted delta-rich sleep. Stronger L6 activation desynchronized the network, inducing gamma oscillations. These changes were confined to the activated thalamocortical circuit, suggesting that corticothalamic feedback acts as a local modulatory subsystem.

Nurse-led psychoeducational interventions in patients suffering from schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders and their families: A scoping review protocol

Background Mental health conditions are one of the most significant public health issues. Psychoeducation is an organized, structured, and understanding transfer of knowledge about the disease and its treatment, incorporating inspirational and educational elements to allow patients to achieve better management of their disease and increased treatment adherence and effectiveness, especially for patients with schizophrenia. This review will consider studies that include adults suffering from schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders and their family members. In this scoping review, the rigor expected of all primary and secondary research will be guided by clear and consistent standards governing its design, regardless of the level of inquiry. The review will aims to map the currently available research in nurse-led psychoeducational programs conducted on these populations. Inclusion criteria Adults suffering from schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders and their family members; patients and family members aged from 18 to 75 years old. Both experimental and quasi-experimental study designs, including randomised controlled trials, non-randomised controlled trials, before-and-after studies, interrupted time-series studies, analytical observational studies, and descriptive observational study designs. Intervention: a) psychoeducational interventions on patients suffering from schizophrenia and/or other psychotic disorders and their families, b) nurse-led psychoeducational interventions. Methods and analysis The scoping review will be conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews. Medline, Scopus and CINAHL databases will be searched for relevant studies. The reference list of the selected articles will be screened. Data will be summarised in a comprehensive narrative summary to highlight the following for each nurse-led intervention program: main features, setting, and target. Ethics and dissemination This study does not require ethical approval. The study will be submitted to a peer reviewed journal, will be publicly disseminated and will be the topic of research presentations.
