Using Masao facial makeup in software interface interaction design from the perspective of digital communication

Abstract Masao facial makeup, a unique folk cultural form from the Baoji region, carries a rich traditional heritage. However, its inheritance and development have long been hindered by limited dissemination channels and insufficient public attention. This paper proposes an innovative model for deeply integrating Masao facial makeup with computer software, and transforming it into an interactive filter within social media applications. This unique design not only fills the gap in the digital representation of Masao facial makeup but also takes a crucial step in combining folk culture with modern technology. Through a systematic survey, this paper comprehensively collects and precisely analyzes user expectations for functionality and suggestions for improvements regarding the Masao Facial Makeup APP. Based on this, the paper develops a functional system that aligns with user needs. The art essence of Masao facial makeup is then cleverly incorporated into the app’s innovative interface design. A group of 50 representative volunteers are selected to undergo a strict feasibility test of the app, and the APP is then compared to two mainstream traditional cultural apps on the market. The results show that the Masao Facial Makeup APP demonstrates significant advantages. This APP far surpasses the control group in core dimensions such as visual effects, functional attributes, interactive experience, and operational experience, with scores of 4.2, 4.9, 4.5, and 4.6, respectively. During the testing process, volunteers highly praise the app’s interactive interface design and fully recognize the smoothness and convenience of its operation. The key research contribution lies in successfully establishing a new paradigm for the cultural inheritance of Masao facial makeup. By leveraging digital tools, it significantly enhances its dissemination effectiveness and cultural influence, providing an innovative template and practical path for the protection and inheritance of similar folk cultures. This paper strongly promotes the innovative development and sustainable inheritance of folk culture in the digital age and holds the potential to revitalize more cultural treasures with the support of modern technology. It enriches the cultural inheritance ecosystem, and expands the boundaries and possibilities of cultural transmission.

Abstract The circulatory system receives ionizing radiation at various dose rates. Given mounting epidemiological evidence of elevated radiation risks for diseases of the circulatory system (DCS), the International Commission on Radiological Protection recently recommended the first ever dose threshold for DCS. However, very little knowledge exists about whether radiation effects differ with dose rates and among tissues of the circulatory system. Here, we investigated the impact of dose rates in the carotid artery (CA) and compared it with the aorta. CA was obtained from mice irradiated with the same total dose that was delivered either acutely, 25 fractions, 100 fractions or chronically. CA underwent immunofluorescence and histochemistry staining. Irradiation led to vascular damage, inflammation and fibrosis in CA. The integrative analysis for 14 prelesional endpoints revealed that the magnitude of carotid changes was greater in 25 fractions, smaller in 100 fractions, and much smaller in chronic irradiation, compared with acute irradiation. Radiation responses of the aorta were qualitatively similar to, but quantitatively greater than those of CA. Irradiation causes sparing and enhancing dose protraction effects in a manner that is not a simple function of dose rate, and that radiosensitivity varies within the circulatory system.

Prospective association of daily toothbrushing frequency and the prevalence of childhood functional constipation: the Japan Environment and Children’s Study

Abstract Functional constipation is the most common gastrointestinal disorder during childhood. Oral stimulation (mastication and toothbrushing) reportedly improves bowel movements, but the association between daily toothbrushing behavior and functional constipation remains unknown. Data (n = 83,660) from fetal records (n = 104,059) in the Japan Environment and Children’s Study, an ongoing prospective birth cohort, were analyzed to investigate the impact of daily toothbrushing frequency on functional constipation during childhood, using ROME III diagnostic criteria. After multiple imputations of data acquired from self-reported questionnaires, a multivariable binomial logistic regression analysis was used with adjustments for several maternal and child-related variables. Functional constipation was observed in 10,123 (12.1%) and 8,820 (10.5%) participants at 3 and 4 years postpartum, respectively. Using the appropriate frequency of daily toothbrushing (twice or more) as a reference, the odds of functional constipation increased with decreasing daily toothbrushing frequency after covariate adjustments involving daily feeding frequency. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) for functional constipation in participants without daily toothbrushing behavior (less than once a day) at 4 years postpartum was 1.87 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.34–2.61). Similarly, the adjusted OR (95% CI) for chronic functional constipation (at both 3 and 4 years postpartum) in participants without daily toothbrushing behavior (less than once a day) at 2 years postpartum was 1.62 (1.14–2.31). Functional constipation during childhood was associated with decreased daily toothbrushing frequency. Although the underlying mechanism of daily toothbrushing behavior in prompting bowel movements remains unclear, it is a major basis of self-health management in children that plays an important role in managing functional constipation.

Brain State-Dependent Neocortico-Hippocampal Network Dynamics Are Modulated by Postnatal Stimuli

Neurons in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus discharge synchronously in a brain state-dependent manner to transfer information. Published studies have highlighted the temporal coordination of neuronal activities between the hippocampus and a neocortical area; however, how the spatial extent of neocortical activity relates to hippocampal activity remains partially unknown. We imaged mesoscopic neocortical activity while recording hippocampal local field potentials in anesthetized and unanesthetized GCaMP-expressing transgenic mice. We found that neocortical activity elevates around hippocampal sharp wave ripples (SWRs). SWR-associated neocortical activities occurred predominantly in vision-related regions including the visual, retrosplenial, and frontal cortex. While pre-SWR neocortical activities were frequently observed in awake and natural sleeping states, post-SWR neocortical activity decreased significantly in the latter. Urethane-anesthetized mice also exhibited SWR-correlated calcium elevation, but in longer timescale than observed in natural sleeping mice. During hippocampal theta oscillation states, phase-locked oscillations of calcium activity were observed throughout the entire neocortical areas. In addition, possible environmental effects on neocortico-hippocampal dynamics were assessed in this study by comparing mice reared in ISO (isolated condition) and ENR (enriched environment). In both SWR and theta oscillations, mice reared in ISO exhibited clearer brain state-dependent dynamics than those reared in ENR. Our data demonstrate that the neocortex and hippocampus exhibit heterogeneous activity patterns that characterize brain states, and postnatal experience plays a significant role in modulating these patterns.
