STAR-RIS enabled covert integration of sensing communication and over-the-air computing with analysis and optimization
Abstract This paper addresses the challenges of security and reliability in simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligence surface (STAR-RIS) assisted integrated sensing, communication, and computation over-the-air (ISCCO) system. We investigate the trade-offs between covert communication, covert sensing, and Over-the-Air Computation (AirComp) reliability in scenarios involving both communication and sensing wardens. Specifically, to meet covert performance and reliability requirements, we derive covert rates for communication, sensing, and air computing under the assumption of perfect channel state information (CSI) by the wardens. The radar sensing Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) and AirComp mean square error (MSE) are used to represent sensing and computing performance. Building on this, we propose an optimization framework to minimize the error probability of AirComp while satisfying the covert communication and covert sensing requirements as well as the radar sensing CRB constraints. To solve the inherently non-convex optimization problem, we propose a smoothed exact penalty algorithm with a twice continuously differentiable property. This approach involves the joint optimization of data transmission beam-forming, radar sensing beamforming, data aggregation beamforming, and the STAR-RIS matrix. The problem is reformulated into a difference of convex functions form to search for a local optimum. Simulations demonstrate that our algorithm surpasses benchmark schemes in convergence and robustness.

The threat of COVID-19 will influence consumers’ taste compensation
Abstract This study examined how taste compensation is affected by mortality salience and its mechanisms during the pandemic. It conducted four studies and confirmed that mortality salience can cause consumers to seek stronger taste compensation, and the mediating role of compensation motivation. Additionally, low self-efficacy leads consumers to rely more on external compensation, as the impact of mortality salience upon compensating motivation can be negatively moderated by self-efficacy. This study identified new antecedents of F&B taste that add to the literature on compensatory consumption and pandemic research. It also helps hospitality managers and marketers to better understand consumers’ dietary preferences and modify their business strategies accordingly during and after the COVID-19 outbreak.
Hyperimmune serum containing Histophilus somni rHsp60, rOMP40 and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae LPS antibodies as supplementary treatment for calf respiratory diseases
Abstract Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in dairy heifer calves cause significant economic losses associated with treatment costs, reduced growth rate and mortality. Bovine hyperimmune serum was produced in cows hyperimmunized with three conserved antigens ( Histophilus somni rHsp60, H. somni rOMP40, and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae LPS core oligosaccharide), which exhibit broad cross-reactivity with several Gram-negative bacteria. Dairy heifer calves received serum subcutaneously on the first day of treatment for BRD, as an additive to antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Health status was estimated on a modified point scale system on days 1, 7 and 14th of the treatment. The calves were divided into four groups (10 per group): two with moderate signs of BRD, one with and one without hyperimmune serum application, and two with severe signs of BRD, one receiving hyperimmune serum. At day 1,7,14 of treatment and day 180 of age, plasma fibrinogen, serum haptoglobin, serum amyloid A, IgG 1 , IgG 2 , and IgM concentrations were estimated. Harvested hyperimmune serum contained high levels of IgG 1 and IgG 2 antibodies against homologous antigens. The findings suggest that the supplementary use of hyperimmune serum, in combination with antibiotics and NSAIDs, may contribute to an earlier improvement and reduced severity of clinical signs in dairy heifer calves compared to treatment without serum.

Effect of visceral fat on onset of metabolic syndrome
Abstract This study analysed the effects of visceral fat on metabolic syndrome (MetS) and developed an algorithm to predict its onset using health examination data from the Iwaki Health Promotion Project in Japan. The dataset included 213 cases of MetS onset within three years and 1320 non-onset cases. The data was split into training and test sets with an 8:2 ratio. In the training set, the MetS onset group had significantly higher visceral fat area than the non-onset group (p < 0.00001). A cut-off value of 82 cm2 for the visceral fat area was determined, with an AUC of 0.86. Additionally, a machine learning algorithm utilizing seven non-invasive factors, including visceral fat, achieved high accuracy with a five-fold cross-validation AUC of 0.90 in the training set and 0.88 in the test set. Visceral fat was identified as the main factor, as supported by the SHAP value. In conclusion, this study found visceral fat to be crucial in predicting the onset of MetS, and a high-accuracy onset prediction algorithm based on non-invasive parameters, including visceral fat, was developed.

Electrodeposition of Al–Mg alloys from chloride-based molten salts
Abstract Aluminum-magnesium (Al–Mg) alloys were potentiostatically electrodeposited on copper using Al anode at 180 °C from 62AlCl 3 + 17NaCl + 15KCl + 6MgCl 2 electrolyte. The depositions are categorized into two groups based on current density-time curves and deposit compositions. Group 1 corresponds to overpotentials from − 1.05 to − 1.10 V, and Group 2 from − 1.15 to − 1.30 V. Morphologies within Group 1 possess almost pure Al and coarsen with overpotential; while those in Group 2 possess Al and Mg, and refine with overpotential. Based on electrochemical, compositional, and spectral analyses, a generic deposition scheme is proposed. Mathematical variables in this scheme are adjusted rendering it suitable for both groups. Sources of Al for deposition are $${{\text{Al}}_{2}\text{Cl}}_{7}^{-}$$ , and $${\text{AlCl}}_{4}^{-}$$ ; that of Mg is MgCl 2 (possibly forming complexes in electrolyte). Al anodic dissolution occurs significantly in Group 1. Na(AlCl 4 ) formation and Cl 2 evolution occur at anode in Group 2. The proposed scheme is used to devise the following corollaries: (i) Al deposits preferentially in both groups; (ii) Mg deposition is prerequisite for Na(AlCl 4 ) formation; (iii) Deposited Mg is curtailed to maximum of ~ 4.02 at.% by Na(AlCl 4 ); and (iv) A minimum threshold exists for Al/Mg deposit composition ratios. The scheme and corollaries answer questions of practical and fundamental importance.
