Body image and social media as predictors of pregnancy health behaviors
Abstract Pregnancy is a time of profound physical and psychological change, during which health behaviors can affect maternal and fetal outcomes. This study aimed to examine how body image and perceived media portrayals of pregnancy are associated with health behaviors among pregnant women. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 921 participants across multiple Polish regions. Standardized instruments measured health-promoting behaviors, body esteem, and perceptions of media portrayals of pregnancy. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify clinical, psychological, and sociocultural predictors. Results showed that advancing gestational age was associated with a decline in health behaviors (B = -0.161; p < 0.001), while comorbidities predicted an increase (B = 2.871; p < 0.001). Negative media portrayals were linked to lower engagement (B = -2.938; p < 0.001), whereas positive portrayals and media underrepresentation correlated with increased health practices. Components of body esteem, especially physical condition (B = 0.812; p < 0.001), were the strongest predictors. The final model explained 87% of the variance in health behaviors (R² = 0.87; F = 433.54; p < 0.001). These findings underscore the need for holistic prenatal health promotion that incorporates body image, media perceptions, and psychosocial, clinical, and sociocultural factors to improve education and support outcomes.

Phytochemical composition and bioactivities of Saudi endemic Reseda pentagyna essential oils
Abstract Reseda pentagyna , a medicinal plant native to Saudi Arabia, has little scientific evidence of its phytochemical composition and biological capabilities. Despite its potential therapeutic benefits, the Resedaceae family has received little research attention. The purpose of this study was to analyze the phytochemical composition of R. pentagyna leaves essential oil (RPLEO) from Abha, Saudi Arabia, and evaluate its antioxidant, antibacterial, antidiabetic, and cytotoxic effects. The essential oils (EOs) were extracted via hydro-distillation and yielded 4.75 ± 1.75 (W/V). GC-MS analysis showed a robustly dominated monoterpenoid composition, mainly carvacrol (21.59%) as the predominant compound, followed by thymol (3.62%) and other phenolic constituents. RPLEO exhibits high antioxidant activity (DPPH IC 50 = 80.13 ± 1.53 µg/mL, ABTS IC 50 = 92.72 ± 1.34 µg/mL), which explains the high TPC (141.30 mg GAE/g) and TFC (88.34 mg QAE/g). Furthermore, RPLEO showed an antibacterial activity against Gram-negative pathogens (MIC = 6.25–12.50 µg/mL). It also showed notable antidiabetic potential by inhibiting α-amylase (IC 50 = 82.31 µg/mL) and α-glucosidase (IC 50 = 87.49 µg/mL) enzymes. Furthermore, it induced considerable cytotoxicity against HepG2 (IC 50 = 112.34 µg/mL) and MCF-7 (IC 50 = 126.34 µg/mL) cells, confirmed by the upregulation of pro-apoptotic markers (caspase-3, -8, -9, Bax) and downregulation of anti-apoptotic markers (Bcl-2, Bcl-xL). This study provides the first comprehensive analysis of RPLEO, demonstrating significant bioactivity. Further investigations, including compound isolation, in vivo validation, and clinical translation, are recommended to fully realize its medicinal potential.
Oceanic upper crustal accretion by melt sill and lava flow interaction at Axial volcano
Abstract Magmatically-accreted upper crust along mid-ocean ridges is traditionally considered to consist of lava flows overlying a sheeted-dyke complex. However, how the upper crust is formed at hotspot-influenced ridge segments remains unknown. Using three-dimensional seismic reflection data, here we report images of lava flow layering beneath Axial volcano on the Juan de Fuca Ridge. These lava flow layers dip inward towards the caldera and rift zones, resulting from subsidence caused by magma withdrawal beneath the summit and rift zone extension. Furthermore, our images reveal that the classic, laterally continuous sheeted-dyke complex is absent. Instead, lava flow layers are rotated and brought into direct contact with the magma domain, leading to partial assimilation of these units. Three-dimensional images also show that melt is injected outward along lava flow layers, suggesting that the upper crust at Axial volcano is formed by complex interactions between injected melt sills and lava flow layers.

Yeast prebiotics mitigate lead toxicity in Nile tilapia through physiological and ultrastructural improvements
Abstract Lead (Pb) contamination is a major threat to aquaculture and food safety, mainly due to its hepatotoxic and oxidative impacts on fish. This study evaluated the ameliorative role of yeast-derived prebiotics, mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) and β-glucan (βG), against Pb-induced toxicity in Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ). A total of 180 fish were allocated into four treatment groups for eight weeks: control, MOS/βG-supplemented diet (0.3%), Pb exposure (10 mg/L), and combined Pb with MOS/βG supplementation. Pb exposure significantly reduced serum total protein, albumin, and globulin while increasing hepatic enzymes, indicating liver dysfunction. Severe hepatic necrosis, hepatopancreatic degeneration, gill lamellar fusion, and mitochondrial disruption were also observed, alongside elevated Pb residues in liver > gills > muscles. Dietary MOS/βG markedly restored altered biochemical markers, improved histoarchitectural and ultrastructural integrity, and reduced Pb accumulation in all tissues compared with Pb-exposed fish ( p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that MOS/βG supplementation enhances physiological resilience to heavy metal stress and is associated with reduced Pb bioaccumulation, highlighting their potential as a sustainable nutritional intervention to protect fish health and reduce tissue contamination in Pb-polluted aquaculture environments.

MI-SOH: a multi-indicator feature dependency model for lithium-ion battery state-of-health Estimation
Abstract Accurate state-of-health (SOH) estimation is vital for guaranteeing the safety and longevity of lithium-ion batteries. However, most existing methods employ static feature fusion strategies that fail to account for temporal evolution of indicator correlations throughout battery degradation, leading to compromised estimation accuracy under complex, non-stationary aging patterns. To address this gap, this study proposes MI-SOH, a multi-indicator SOH estimation model that dynamically adapts to evolving feature importance across battery lifecycle stages. MI-SOH primarily consists of four core components: (1) Multi-indicator Feature Weighting Block that employs dual-correlation analysis to adaptively prioritize health factors based on correlation patterns that reflect multi-stage degradation characteristics; (2) Temporal Pattern Extraction Block that processes these weighted features through dilated convolutions to capture multi-scale degradation dynamics; (3) Cross-Variable Dependency Modeling Block that utilizes inverted transformers to learn complex interdependencies among different health indicators throughout battery aging; and (4) Adaptive Hyperparameter Optimization Block that automatically configures model hyperparameters for optimal performance across diverse battery conditions. Extensive experiments on benchmark National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) datasets demonstrate that MI-SOH outperforms current mainstream prediction approaches across diverse battery chemistries and lifecycles, achieving average Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of 0.00312 and 0.01126 respectively. This research advances intelligent battery management systems (BMS) by providing a practical SOH monitoring framework critical for electric vehicle safety and energy storage reliability.

The impact of state and trait general and social anxiety on theory of mind
Abstract Theory of mind is an important skill to function in society. There is evidence that anxiety can impair the ability to use this skill effectively; however, current research is inconclusive, uses heterogeneous measures of theory of mind, and lacks distinction between anxiety types, despite these being known to present differently in clinical populations. False belief tasks are standard practice for assessing theory of mind in children and autistic participants and have also been found to adequately detect theory of mind differences in neurotypical adults yet are not systematically used throughout the current literature. Given that egocentrism reflects difficulty inhibiting one’s own perspective, a core component of theory of mind, the present study examined egocentric bias using a false belief task. One hundred and sixty-eight participants completed the Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) prior to being randomly allocated to a general anxiety, social anxiety, or neutral mood condition. Following mood manipulation, participants completed a false belief task with either privileged knowledge or no knowledge. A 3 × 2 ANOVA found no significant main or interaction effects of general or social anxiety and false belief knowledge on performance, despite a reported increase of anxiety in the anxiety groups. There were also no significant correlations between trait general or social anxiety on theory of mind. The findings from this study do not support the previous evidence that anxiety increases egocentrism. Future studies should continue to distinguish systematically between state, trait, general, and social anxiety, and use reliable theory of mind measures.
