Abstract Spatial object representations are necessary for effective goal-directed actions. These representations can be produced with respect to the self (i.e., egocentrically) and/or to surrounding objects (i.e., allocentrically). For the latter, one (spatial) factor of influence is landmark proximity to target. This factor shapes allocentric representations and informs future memory-guided actions, in both impoverished and rich scenes. More recent work has suggested that cognitive factors (e.g., object semantics) can also influence allocentric coding. Here, we investigated how both spatial and cognitive factors affect allocentric coding in naturalistic environments. In a memory-guided virtual reality (VR) experiment, semantically-related targets (i.e., local objects, which are movable and manipulable, e.g. a cup) were presented on congruent or incongruent anchors (i.e., large, immovable objects, predictive of local object locations). After an imperceptible anchor shift (or not), a target had to be placed in its remembered position. Placement performance results indicated that anchors were, indeed, used to build up spatial target representations. Additionally, these representations showed strong effects of proximity-to-anchor, with no differential effects of phrase-level semantic congruency. Taken together, in our memory-guided task, we found that spatial proximity plays a dominant role in allocentric coding in naturalistic (virtual) scenes.

Pathomolecular characterization of recently isolated duck Astrovirus from domestic ducklings in Egypt

Abstract Astrovirus infection significantly impacts poultry production due to its fatal effect on young birds and their ability to be transmitted by horizontal and vertical routes. In the current study, eight Egyptian duckling farms from different breeds (Moulard, Muscovy, and Pekin) with a history of sudden death accompanied by neurological signs with marked hepatitis lesions at Al-Qalyubia, Al-Sharqia, and Assuit governorates from 2022 to 2023 have been investigated. All the examined freshly dead ducklings have a history of vaccination with the live attenuated duck hepatitis vaccine. During the laboratory investigations, DAstV was successfully isolated on the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of specific pathogen-free (SPF) embryonated chicken eggs (ECE) and designated as DAstV- VSVRI-CLEVB-2022 and showed the characteristic star-shaped six-point end of astrovirus when examined under the electron microscope. Molecular identification showed positive PCR amplification targeting the 434 bp of the ORF1b encoding non-structural proteins and is highly conserved of the G4260 Avastrovirus 2, sequence analysis showed that the isolated strain showed 100% similarity with duck astrovirus strain HBGT-China-2014 (KX290465.1). Pathogenicity testing of the isolated astrovirus in susceptible one-day-old ducklings, showed typical death signs of astrovirus at 31, 38, and 50 h post-infection (PI) with paint brush hemorrhagic liver surface. The above-mentioned results showed that DAstV could be one of the causative agents of acute duck hepatitis in Egypt and further investigations are recommended to prepare a local autogenous vaccine from the isolated strain with the application of strict biosecurity measures and evaluate its efficacy against the field challenge to control such a problem.

Randomized controlled trial of PERMA-based intervention on subjective well-being and post-traumatic growth in young and middle-aged stroke survivors during rehabilitation

Abstract Young and middle-aged stroke patients face unique rehabilitation-related psychological distress—such as frustration from slow motor function recovery, anxiety about losing family/social roles, and low motivation for long-term rehabilitation—all of which directly hinder physical recovery and post-stroke adaptation. This study developed a rehabilitation-aligned PERMA (positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, achievement) intervention—rooted in positive psychology and tailored to stroke-specific needs—and evaluated its efficacy in improving subjective well-being (SWB) and post-traumatic growth (PTG) in young and middle-aged stroke patients. A total of 132 eligible patients were randomized into two groups (66 per group) via 1:1 simple randomization, using a computer-generated random number table with allocation concealment via sealed envelopes. The control group received conventional rehabilitation, while the intervention group supplemented with 8 structured PERMA-based sessions over 4 weeks. SWB and PTG were assessed at baseline, post-intervention, 1-month, and 3-month follow-ups. Statistical analyses included independent samples t-tests (between-group comparisons) and repeated-measures ANOVAs (longitudinal changes). SWB scores were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group at post-intervention, 1-month, and 3-month follow-ups (t = 2.584, 5.572, 6.099; P  < 0.05); PTG scores were also significantly higher at these time points (t = 2.750, 3.948, 5.300; P  < 0.01). Repeated-measures ANOVAs confirmed statistically significant time-dependent increases in both outcomes for the intervention group ( P  < 0.01), with no such significant trend in the control group. The rehabilitation-aligned PERMA intervention effectively enhances SWB and PTG in young and middle-aged stroke patients during recovery. By integrating positive psychology with functional rehabilitation goals, it addresses the unique psychological needs of this population and provides a feasible, clinically applicable support strategy that complements physical rehabilitation. Abstract Industrial Control Systems (ICS) face escalating cyber threats as adversaries increasingly exploit artificial intelligence (AI) to evade conventional defenses. This paper introduces a Digital Twin-enhanced security framework in which a real-time, physics-consistent virtual replica of the controlled industrial process is synchronized with sensor and actuator telemetry from the physical plant and used to validate, suppress, or confirm anomaly scores produced by a deep-learning ensemble. The physical twin is the closed-loop ICS plant (water treatment, water distribution, or chemical process); the Digital Twin is a state-space process model coupled to an Extended Kalman Filter that predicts the next sensor measurement and emits a residual whenever the observation deviates from the physics-consistent prediction. The detection layer combines this Digital-Twin residual signal with a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) autoencoder, an attention-based transformer, and an Isolation Forest, fused through a calibrated weighted score that is gated by the residual, so that purely data-driven anomalies that do not violate physics are downweighted and stealthy attacks that violate physics are escalated. Evaluated on three benchmark datasets (Secure Water Treatment testbed [SWaT], Water Distribution [WADI], and Tennessee Eastman) comprising 56 attack scenarios, the framework achieves 97.6% precision, 96.2% recall, an F1-score of 96.9%, and sub-50 ms inference latency. This corresponds to a 3.2 percentage-point F1-score improvement over the strongest baseline (transformer at 93.7%) and a roughly 50% reduction in residual error. Interpretability is supported through attention visualization and Digital-Twin residual analysis, enabling operators to validate detection outcomes. With native Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture (OPC UA) integration, Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus for distributed deployments, and formal verification of safety properties, the framework supports deployment-oriented protection for critical infrastructure aligned with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62443-4-2 requirements.
