Racial and ethnic disparities in neuroblastoma incidence and mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Abstract
e22008 Background: Neuroblastoma is the solid extracranial tumor most common in the infancy, with a high mortality. Studies shows racial/ethnic disparities in the outcomes, with black and hispanic children showing higher risk and worst prognosis compared to the white children Methods: Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science databases were systematically searched for studies that presented data about racial/ethnic disparity in neuroblastoma incidence and mortality. The outcomes assessed were racial/ethnic incidence, survival overall, mortality, and risk of death. Statistical analysis as performed using RStudio 4.3.1. Heterogeneity was assessed with I2 statistics, and a random-risk effect was used if I2 > 25%. Results: 3 case-control, 4 retrospective cohort, 6 Descriptive Retrospective Observational studies were included with 26.248 patients with neuroblastoma. Mean age were children 0 to 19 years old and 5 to 10 years of follow up. On incidence of neuroblastoma, there are results on incidence on Hispanic versus White (OR=0.5284; 95% IC 0.4931; 0.5661;P<0.001); incidence on Asian/Pacifc Islander versus White (OR=0.5895; 95% IC 0.5202;0.6680; P<0.001);incidence on American Indian/ Alaska Native versus White (OR=0.4469; 95% IC 0.1778;1.1232; P=0.087); incidence on Black versus White (OR=0.8391; 95% IC 0.6709; 1.0495; P=0.124) incidence on Others (non Hispanic) versus White (OR=0.7043; 95% IC 0.4934; 1.0054; P=0.054) and mortality on Asian/pacific Islander versus White (HR=1.0725; 95% IC 0.8253; 1.3939; P=0.60);on Black versus White (HR=1.1992; 95% IC 0.9836; 1.4619; P=0.072); on Hispanic versus White (HR= 1.168; 95% IC 1.0066; 1.3555; P=0.041). Conclusions: This systematic review and meta-analysis indicated more incidence on black and hispanic children and mortality on Hispanic children when compared to white children.
