Queen Medb’s cairn: A feasibility study in muography
Abstract
We present a cosmic muon imaging study of Queen Medb’s cairn in Knocknarea, Ireland, using GEANT4 and CRY simulation tools. A hidden chamber is suspected within the cairn, based on similar historical structures. However, due to its historical significance, destructive excavation is not an option. Therefore, we investigate the feasibility of muography for probing its internal structure. Our study identifies optimal detector placements relative to the cairn and estimates the required data collection time to achieve sufficient image quality for a definitive determination.
