Probing the vibrational modes and Fano resonance of gold nanoparticles decorated MoS2 nanoflakes using Raman spectroscopy
Abstract
Raman spectroscopy offers a fascinating way to explore how nanoparticles vibrate and interact. In this study, we are looking at how decorating MoS2 nanoflakes, a unique material known as a transition metal dichalcogenide, with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs), can change their behavior. Adding metal nanoparticles to materials like MoS2 creates a more robust local electric field, which makes it easier to observe changes in the properties, enhancing the sensitivity of these materials. To investigate this, we hydrothermally synthesized MoS2 nanoflakes and decorated them with Au NPs in varying amounts. We then used Raman and UV–vis spectroscopy to closely examine their vibrational properties, interaction with electrons, stability at different temperatures, and any shifts in Fano resonance. By adjusting the Au concentration and laser power, we can see how these factors affect electron–phonon coupling in MoS2. This research helps us understand how gold decoration might improve MoS2 for applications in sensing and electronics, opening new possibilities for this material in sensing and electronics.
