Perception of women with breast cancer regarding patient navigation services served at the Western Amazon reference hospital in Brazil.

Abstract

e23175 Background: Patient navigation service (PNS) represents care focused on breast cancer patients, with the primary aim of guiding these women throughout their treatment, providing them with personalized care, and removing barriers that may hinder their therapeutic success. Objective: To analyze breast cancer patients' perception of the care provided by the patient navigation service at the oncology reference institution in the state of Amazonas and to characterize the sociodemographic profile of women with breast cancer. Methods: Crosssectional, analytical, descriptive, and epidemiological study. Data collection was conducted at the Foundation for Cancer Control (FCECON), with a sample size of 186 women undergoing breast cancer treatment and being followed by the PNS. The assessment of perception was done using the Likert Scale. Results: Of the total sample, 84% of the evaluated women reported being very satisfied with the PNS, and 16% were satisfied. The perception of care provided by the patient navigation service was positive for all women interviewed: 128 reported being very satisfied, and 57 were satisfied. Conclusions: The experience of the patient navigation service for breast cancer patients at the oncology reference service in Manaus has revolutionized the care for women with breast cancer and encourages its replication in other areas of oncology care. Practice Implications: The patient navigation service is considered a game-changer in oncology care in Amazonas.
