Abstract

Abstract Owing to the interpenetrating mesopores, tunable pore sizes, high surface areas, and abundant compositions, mesoporous materials have achieved great achievement in applications of energy conversion and storage, catalysis, separation, and life science. Recently, multi‐component crystalline mesoporous materials (MCMM) have gradually attracted extensive attention due to their defect‐rich porous wall, flexible multi‐components, stable crystal structure, adjustable physicochemical properties, and promising applications. Limited by their complicated multi‐component system and harsh crystallization conditions, it is indeed challenging to synthesize MCMM and lacks systemic guiding principles. In turn, it is a pivotal direction to achieve breakthroughs and promote the development of functional mesoporous materials, because the porous engineering affords a tremendous scope for tailoring the structure and application of MCMM. Profiting from the development of synthetic chemistry and inorganic–organic self‐assembly chemistry, the controlled synthesis of MCMM have obtained some significant achievements in the past decades. This review summarizes the development of MCMM with an emphasis on synthetic principles and strategies, formation mechanisms of mesoporous structure, advanced applications (particularly in energy storage and conversion, catalysis), and the structure–function relationship between porous structure and performances of MCMM. Finally, the challenges, possible development directions, and opportunities for MCMM are proposed for the future.
