Abstract

Due to their unique properties and appealing applications, multilayered van der Waals materials have attracted increasing attention recently. Based on atomistic simulations and theoretical studies, this work carries out a comprehensive study on the longitudinal vibration properties of multilayered MoS2 structures. Molecular dynamics simulations reveal that high order vibration modes in multilayered MoS2 structures exhibit frequency splitting phenomena. Both the mass-spring model and continuum mechanics model effectively capture the longitudinal vibration characteristics. Notably, as the characteristic vibration length decreases, the mass-spring model demonstrates superior predictive accuracy for vibration frequencies compared to the continuum mechanics model. This study is helpful for designing and fabricating the multilayered van der Waals materials-based nanoscale mechanical resonators.
