Lactate to hemoglobin ratio predicts short and long term mortality in critically ill patients with Gastrointestinal bleeding

Abstract

Abstract This study investigates the lactate-to-hemoglobin ratio (LHR) as a novel biomarker for predicting short-term and long-term mortality in critically ill patients with gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB). Data from 1387 patients in the MIMIC - IV database were analyzed. Results showed that LHR was significantly associated with 7-day, 28-day and 365-day mortality. It had moderate discriminative ability in predicting mortality, with area under the curve (AUC) values ranging from 0.637 to 0.694. Compared with traditional markers and scoring systems, LHR has certain advantages. However, the study has limitations such as a retrospective design and single - center data. In conclusion, LHR shows promise as a prognostic tool for GIB patients, but further research is needed.
