EMG-Based Control System for a Low-Cost Prosthetic Arm
Abstract
This project presents the design and development of a prosthetic arm controlled by surface electromyography (sEMG) signals. The primary objective is to create an affordable, functional, and user friendly prosthetic device for individuals with upper limb amputations. EMG sensors are used to detect the electrical activity generated by muscle contractions in the residual limb. These signals are then processed and interpreted using a microcontroller to control the movement of the prosthetic arm in real time. The system is designed to translate specific muscle movements into corresponding motor actions, allowing the user to perform essential tasks such as grasping, lifting, and releasing objects. Signal filtering, amplification, the project integrates mechanical, electronic, and software components to deliver a practical solution that mimics natural arm functionality. This work contributes to the growing field of bio mechatronics and aims to improve the quality of life for amputees by offering a cost-effective and accessible prosthetic solution.
