Decoupling chiral energy and chiral damping contributions in domain wall dynamics via symmetry arguments
Abstract
Chirality has been extensively studied in magnetic materials lacking inversion symmetry due to its crucial role in spintronics. In this study, we present an experimental scheme to quantify both the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI), which imparts chirality to spin energy, and chiral damping, which introduces chirality into spin energy dissipation. The key principle of our approach, which differs from the previous studies, is the decoupling of the symmetric and antisymmetric components of chiral domain wall dynamics by exploiting the phenomenological mathematical properties of each contribution. Since our method is applicable to the as-grown magnetic films without any microstructuring or electric current injection, it offers a fast and simple route to quantify both the DMI and chiral damping.
