Abstract

In public spaces such as classrooms, conference halls, auditoriums, and seminar rooms, inconsistent voice levels and poor microphone handling frequently result in unclear and uncomfortable audio delivery. These issues can lead to listener fatigue, disengagement, and even miscommunication during critical presentations or events. Often, manual volume adjustments are required during live sessions, but this process is inconvenient, inefficient, and can be highly disruptive, particularly in formal or large-scale settings. Addressing this challenge calls for a smart and reliable solution that automates the process while ensuring clarity and consistency in audio output. To resolve these concerns, we introduce AutoModulate an intelligent, voice-responsive sound control system that dynamically adjusts speaker volume based on real-time analysis of the speaker’s vocal intensity. At the heart of the system is a high-sensitivity microphone and a sound level detection module, such as the MAX4466, which continuously captures audio input. The captured signal is processed by an ESP32 microcontroller, which analyzes the volume level in real time and responds accordingly. AutoModulate uses a digital potentiometer - MCP41010 to regulate the gain of the connected audio amplifier. If the speaker's voice is too soft, the system increases the gain to make it audible; if the voice is too loud, it reduces the output to maintain comfort. This automated feedback loop ensures a consistent and distortion-free audio experience for the audience, regardless of who is speaking or how they use the microphone.T he system is cost-effective, energy-efficient, and easy to build using common development tools like the Arduino IDE. It also supports optional add-ons, such as an OLED display to show volume levels and status indicators, and a web-based dashboard that allows users to define maximum and minimum volume thresholds remotely. AutoModulate is ideal for use in institutions, corporate training environments, public venues, and community centers. By automating volume control, it reduces the reliance on human intervention or technical staff, enhances the professionalism of presentations, and significantly improves the auditory experience for all participants in a given space.
