AI- Powered Android Application for Fruits and Vegetables
Abstract
This project introduces an Al-powered Android application designed to automatically identify and classify a wide variety of fruits and vegetables using image recognition and machine learning techniques. The application aims to bridge the gap between technology and everyday lifestyle by offering users a smart, efficient, and educational tool to recognize fresh produce, obtain nutritional insights, and make informed dietary choices. The core functionality of the app relies on a trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model that processes images captured via the mobile camera or selected from the gallery. Upon image input, the model performs real-time classification and accurately identifies the type of fruit or vegetable. Once identification is complete, the app provides detailed information including nutritional facts, health benefits, seasonal availability, storage tips, and common culinary uses. The application is developed using Android Studio, with the machine learning model deployed using TensorFlow Lite for efficient on-device inference. This ensures smooth performance, reduced latency, and offline functionality-making the app accessible in regions with limited internet connectivity. The user interface is designed to be intuitive and beginner-friendly, catering to users of all age groups including students, health-conscious individuals, farmers, and local vendors. The project demonstrates a practical use case of artificial intelligence in agriculture, nutrition, and education.
