Abstract

In response to updated Joint Commission standards on resuscitation practices in Critical Access Hospitals, this quality improvement initiative aimed to develop a structured approach for capturing and utilizing resuscitation-related metrics to enhance clinical and system-level outcomes. An interdisciplinary workgroup was convened to design and implement a data collection framework leveraging discrete fields within the electronic medical record (EMR), enabling the creation of a real-time dashboard to monitor key performance indicators. The project focused on three primary areas: the presence of early warning signs prior to in-hospital cardiac arrest in non-critical care units, the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and patient outcomes following cardiac arrest. Data was systematically reviewed and presented in a hospital-wide interdisciplinary committee to facilitate case-based discussions and identify opportunities for improvement. Preliminary findings indicate that this initiative not only ensured compliance with regulatory standards but also fostered a culture of continuous quality improvement. Integrating performance metrics into routine review processes has shown promise in enhancing resuscitation preparedness and improving patient outcomes in rural healthcare settings.
