Abstract

ABSTRACT In this work, we report an uncommon 2D metal–organic framework (MOF) with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that undergoes a distinct and reversible colour change upon exposure to various volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The presence of channels oriented parallel to the layers ensures permanent porosity that is preserved even after exfoliation into nanosheets with micron‐scale lateral dimensions, thereby overcoming the conventional limitation of porosity loss in the monolayer regime. This unique combination of structural stability and responsive behaviour not only underscores the potential of 2D MOFs as versatile and tuneable platforms for chemical sensing, but also opens the door to channelled nanosheets, redefining the application landscape of 2D MOFs.
